Kazakhstan's ambassador to India said that the government of Astana is drafting a plan to connect the country's rail network to Chabahar Port in Iran.

In an interview with the Financial Times in New Delhi, Bulat Sarsenbayev said that Kazakhstan is considering its rail link with the port due to the role of Chabahar port in connecting the economic corridors to the region.

The ambassador of Kazakhstan noted that Iran-Turkmen-Kazakhstan rail network was launched earlier in 2015 which with the establishment of this rail network, the volume of trade in the region has increased.

Sarsenbayev added that according to the draft plan, a coalition is expected to be formed between India, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia to establish a railway and goods arrive at Chabahar.

India's Financial Times has already said that, through joint efforts by India, Iran and Afghanistan, the development of Chabahar port in southeastern Iran has been considered as an acceptable way to connect to Afghanistan and potentially to Central Asian countries.
